Dear Friends,
Winter weather has finally arrived at Ishwar’s dera in northern Wisconsin. In a typical year, a killing frost can be expected in mid-September. However, this year, September visitors enjoyed the most incredible weather, with sunny days in the 70s, including a day late in the month where the temperature rose to 85F! With no chance of a freeze, the gardeners enjoyed fresh produce well into the fall.
In October this year, the glorious weather continued, with highs in the 60s and 70s until October 20, when high temperatures finally dropped into the 50s. Volunteers rarely experienced a below-freezing day in the entire month of October!
In November this year, temperatures barely dropped below 20F until the last week of the month. And for a few days earlier in November, temperatures were over 60F!
The first significant snow fell on December 7, and Shanti the dera puppy was well prepared.
The recently graded ISHA Meeting Hall site was nicely blanketed. View north.
View south.
The first snowfall was much too warm to freeze the creek east of Dera Hill.
But the local beavers were hard at work preparing for the winter.
But then, a few days later, on December 10, 18 inches of snow fell at the dera, and the local sevadars mobilized the dera tractor and Bobcat to remove the snow around the ISHA garage.
With warmest regards,
Paul Bauer
