Dear Friends,<\/span><\/p>\n

We now have fresh, clean water at the ISHA Greenhouse, Garden, and Maintenance Shed in Bruce, Wisconsin!<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
The water well was drilled in early July, and now the water lines have been buried and the pump has been installed in the well.<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
First, a deep trench was carefully dug between the water well and the greenhouse.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
The water piping was then placed six feet deep in the trench. We used PEX (or crosslinked high-density polyethylene) a water supply system that has advantages over metal pipe or rigid plastic pipe systems. It is flexible, resistant to scale and chlorine, doesn’t corrode or develop pinholes, is faster to install than metal or rigid plastic, and has fewer connections and fittings. PEX plumbing has been in use in Europe since about 1970, and was introduced in the U.S. around 1980. <\/span><\/div>\n

The PEX tubing was then covered with rigid insulation due to the periodic, deep freezing that occurs in northern Wisconsin. PEX is much more resistant to freeze-breakage than copper or rigid plastic pipe.<\/span><\/div>\n

The PEX water lines were tunneled into the greenhouse with shovels, and the trench was backfilled.<\/span><\/div>\n

 <\/div>\n
The plumbers next installed the water pump in the well.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
The water pump will force water into this blue pressure tank, from which it can be easily distributed to gardens, hoses, and sinks.<\/span><\/div>\n
