Some of the earliest to go in were the blueberry bushes \u2026 probably because everyone loves fresh blueberries!<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span class=\"\">A berry-loving gardening team planted four varieties of hardy berries (<\/span><span class=\"\">Patriot, Superior, Northblue and Chippewa), for a total of 12 plants, all of which are known to thrive in the northern Wisconsin climate. Blueberry bushes can be amazingly long-lived. Under ideal conditions, blueberries will produce berries for 40 to 50 years! And a typical mature bush will yield 10 to 20 pounds of delicious berries per year.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Here the gardeners lay out the plants with flags, and dig the perfectly spaced holes. Each plant receives a generous helping of compost.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"611B3E83-A795-4EF0-97CA-50A9C35E32E7\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ishanews.org\/ishwarsprojects2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/1-Dera-2019-Blueberrry-bushes-Tanya-Tony-Barry.jpg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">They start out small, but each plant will grow to be 3 to 6 feet tall.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"CEB193AB-4856-4E7F-AE9B-436DB0DC3368\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ishanews.org\/ishwarsprojects2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/2-Dera-2019-Blueberrry-bushes-Tanya.jpg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\" style=\"font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Patriot Blueberry has huge (quarter-size), tart, dusky fruit that burst with blueberry flavor. Mouthwatering! This tall-growing variety ripens early, in late July.&nbsp;<\/span><br class=\"\"><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"FDF19E28-287E-4D36-98A7-560D1D1B2A84\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ishanews.org\/ishwarsprojects2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/3-Dera-2019-Blueberry-Patriot.jpg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The low-growing, compact Northblue Blueberry plant produces large volumes of delicious, medium-size, dark-blue berries. It is very cold hardy, and ripens in July. The fruit has a \u201cwild\u201d juicy taste, and is excellent for baking&nbsp;or fresh eating. Lip-smacking!<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"33B80F99-3B9D-4BF7-BB08-849D574D3465\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ishanews.org\/ishwarsprojects2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/5-Dera-2019-Blueberry-Northblue.jpg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Chippewa Blueberry is a very hardy, hybrid blueberry with a compact form and good fall color. In mid-summer, it yields huge crops of large, sweet, juicy, light-blue fruit. Yummy!<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"7AEF5D8A-9C27-4AD3-8EC6-553580088FBB\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ishanews.org\/ishwarsprojects2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/6-Dera-2019-Blueberry-Chippewa.jpg\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Superior Blueberry was specially bred by the University of Minnesota to produce large numbers of delightfully sweet berries in cold climates. It flowers later than most other blueberries, protecting the flowers from late frosts and making it a reliable late-season producer. Berries are low in acidity, with a&nbsp;balanced flavor and delicate sweetness, and thus perfect in baked goods or cooked into sauces. Delectable!
