INTERNATIONAL INTENSIVE MEDITATION RETREATS – GENERAL INFORMATION

This page provides general information and answers to frequently asked questions about the International Intensive Meditation Retreats (IIMRs). Specific details about each IIMR are provided through the links below. Information regarding IIMRs outside the United States are hosted as a courtesy on ISHA’s website.

It is in your best interest to read the entire page thoroughly.

So what is an IIMR? An IIMR – or International Intensive Meditation Retreat – is a multi-day function in a secluded setting, with a limited attendance, that is intended to maximize interaction with Ishwar. The retreat size is restricted to a total of 70 people.

Where will the IIMRs be held? There will be four IIMRs; one each in Germany, Indonesia, United States and New Zealand during 2018-2019.

Are these events sponsored by ISHA? ISHA is the sponsor only of the event in the United States. ISHA is an educational nonprofit organized under the laws of the United States of America and cannot operate outside the U.S. However, ISHA has agreed to be the central location for information regarding the IIMRs since Ishwar is the speaker at these events.

Can I register for an IIMR if I don’t live in – or near – the country where it is being held? Yes. There is no geographic limitation on which IIMR you can register for.

Where can I find more details about each one?

Who are the Retreat Coordinators? The Retreat Coordinators are sevadars selected by Ishwar. They are giving their time on a voluntary basis. Please be considerate and patient when interacting with them.

What is the exact location where each Retreat will be held? The venue address will be given only to those who register. This limits people contacting the venues which could cause problems. Only the Retreat Coordinators should contact the venues.

Can I ATTEND more than one IIMR? No. YOU MAY ONLY ATTEND ONE IIMR from the 2018-2019 Retreat Schedule.

Why only one?!? Ishwar has determined that the best way to allow more people the opportunity to attend this type of limited-size event is to keep attendance to only one retreat over the course of two years.

Can I REGISTER for more than one IIMR? No. YOU MAY ONLY REGISTER FOR ONE IIMR from the 2018-2019 Retreat Schedule. If the event you register for fills up and you sign up for the Wait List, you still may not register for another IIMR. If you sign up for more than one IIMR, your name will be removed from the other retreat registration lists. Whichever IIMR you register for first (based on your registration time-stamp) is the one you will be eligible to attend.

Can I give or trade my place to someone? You may not transfer your registration. Ishwar has stated he wishes this to be strictly on a first-come, first-served basis in order to be fair to everyone. That means, if you are registered but withdraw, the person who is next on the Wait List will be given the opportunity to attend. Simply put: there are no “substitutions.”

When does registration start? Retreat registration starts at 15:00 GMT (3:00pm) on Saturday, December 30, 2017 (9am USA Central Standard time; 4pm Central European time; 11pm Indonesia Central time; and 4am [Sun., Dec. 31, 2017] New Zealand Standard time) and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone will have an equal opportunity to register for their chosen retreat.

Can I please reserve a spot before registration starts? Ishwar has made it clear that everyone should have an equal chance to register, so a space cannot be held for anyone. Do your best to register as soon as the registration opens. Attendance, as well as preferred lodging, will be allocated in order of registration.

Will everyone get to attend? We hope so, but since attendance is limited it depends on the number of people who register for each IIMR. Some people may end up on the Wait List for the IIMR they register for. IIMRs have a limited attendance so people can have close interaction with Ishwar. Small retreat venues are selected for this reason. See individual retreat pages for details on registration limits.

What about people who attended (or did not attend) one of the recent IMRs? Ishwar has said the attendance is open to everyone, regardless of whether or not they attended a previous IMR.

Should I wait to see which retreat has space? Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, you should decide in advance which retreat you want to attend and register as soon as registration opens on December 30, 2017.

How do I register? We are using a website called Eventbrite. The Eventbrite registration URLs can be found on the individual information pages that are listed above. The Eventbrite website allows 15 minutes to complete the registration form, but it should take you less than five minutes. Your place in the “virtual” line – and the number of registrations you select (limited to up to four people, including yourself) – will be held for those 15 minutes as soon as you click the “Register” button.

What details are needed to register for an IIMR? The only information you need at the time of registration are the first and last names and email addresses of yourself and any other person you are registering under your name (limited to up to four people, including yourself).

Can I register my whole family or a group? You will be able to register up to four people at one time if attendance limits allow at the time you register. (If there are fewer than four spaces available, you will not be able to select four registration spaces. You will only be able to select the number of spaces then available.) If you have more than four people in your group, someone else will need to register others under their name.

Can children attend IIMRs? Yes, children are welcome. There are no restrictions for children of any age to attend an IIMR. But they must be registered for the Retreat and must be accompanied and/or attended by a parent or guardian at all times. Fees vary by age and the availability of children’s rooms and space depends on the venue.

Can I attend just part of a Retreat? That is up to you. But the venues do not offer prorated fees for partial attendance. You will have to pay the full price. Also, the IIMRs are designed with the idea that people will be able to attend all the days.

How much will it cost? Each IIMR has different costs based on the venue fees and each IIMR will have a different deposit requirement. See the individual retreat pages for further details. Deposits will be applied to the cost of the IIMR. If you do not meet the deposit requirements set by the Retreat Coordinator, you will lose your place in the Registration line.

Can I cancel after I register? Yes, you can cancel after you register. If unavoidable circumstances cause a schedule change (job, family or health, for example), we encourage you to contact your retreat coordinator(s) as soon as possible to cancel your registration so that other folks on the Wait List can attend.

Can I get a refund? You may be able to do so. Each retreat venue has different rules regarding cancellations and refunds. Every effort will be made to facilitate a refund. But, especially in the case of late cancellations, a refund may depend on the timing of your cancellation and whether someone from the Wait List can replace you.

Can I record while at an IIMR? There is no audio or video recording of Ishwar’s lectures or discussions at the retreat. Photos may be taken if permission is asked for and granted in advance of anyone and everyone in the photo.

Will I get a personal meeting with Ishwar? It is intended that every person has an opportunity for a personal meeting with Ishwar.
